Celebrate Freedom

Happy Memorial Day Weekend!

Patriotic Trifle

2 cups heavy cream
½ cup white sugar
2 cups milk
2 (3.4 ounce) packages instant cheesecake pudding mix
2 teaspoons lemon juice
½ cup sour cream
2 (10.75 ounce) packages prepared pound cake
2 (16 ounce) carton strawberries, sliced
strawberries for garnish
blueberries for garnish

1. In a medium bowl, combine cream and white sugar and beat until stiff peaks form. Set aside. You want a stiffer whipped cream for trifle so that it holds up over time.

2. In another bowl beat cheesecake pudding mixes with milk for 2 minutes or until thick. Mix in sour cream and lemon juice. Fold in one cup of the sweetened whipped cream.

3. Slice pound cake into one inch cubes.

4. In a trifle bowl, start by layering ¼ of the pound cake on the bottom of the trifle bowl (A large glass bowl can be used if you don't have a trifle bowl). Next, layer ¼ of the pudding mixture followed by a layer of ¼ of the strawberries. To make trifle look presentable make sure each layer is distinct and separate especially on the sides of the bowl. Repeat layers four times or until bowl is almost full.

5. Garnish the top of the trifle with the remaining whipped cream, strawberries, and blueberries.

6. Chill in refrigerator for at least 4 hours.

Variations:
1) The pound cake can be replaced by angel food cake for less calories.
2) Vanilla pudding can replace the cheesecake pudding.
3) Add more blueberries throughout the trifle instead of just on top.

I hope you have a wonderful Memorial Weekend
full of fun, family & festivities...
and please take a moment to honor the
brave men & woman that fought for so hard, and gave their lives for our freedom!

Totally Illuminating!

These illuminating lovelies
are brought to you by
the very talented
Mark Montano
Author of
The Big Ass Book of Home Decor
and
The Big Ass Book of CraftsYOU'LL NEED:

Jars in different sizes
Yarn
Masking tape
White Krylon spray paint
Fabric cut on the bias 1 1/2"
wide by 10" per jar
Tea lights

HERE'S HOW:
1.  After your jars are sparkly clean, tightly wrap them with yarn in a crisscross pattern and tape the ends on the underside or the inside so they stay in place.  Don't place the tape on the outside of the jar where you will be painting.
2.  Cover an area in newspaper and give the jars 3 light coats of white Krylon spray paint (waiting 5-10 minutes in between coats) and let dry.
3.  Remove the yarn and wrap the tops with the bias fabric securing them with a knot.  You could also use ribbon for the tops, it's up to you.
4.  Add your tea lights and set your table. Gorgeous!

What a wonderful use for old jars!

I think this is going
to be a fun DIY project,
thanks for sharing Mark!

Recycled Wrap!

As I perused
(my new obsession)
this past weekend,
I saw this photo & it reminded me of my childhood...

When I was a little girl (many many moons ago)
I often received gifts wrapped in the funny pages and or in recycled goods. I once received a hand knit scarf, stuffed in an empty Nestles Quik chocolate milk mix can... it was so fun!

It was a great reminder that there are
fun, festive & fabulous wraps all around us!
Such as:

Now that most cars have GPS...
what are you doing with all of those old maps???
MAP WRAP of course!

The "funnies" are in the newspaper everyday!
Brown paper bags make great wrap...
just add colorful ribbon!

And I think these snack bags
made from pages of a magazine
are darling!

I think you get the idea...

A Whole New Arnold Palmer!

On a hot day I love
an ice cold Arnold Palmer...
it's so refreshing!

For those of you (rare few) that
don't know what I'm talking about...
an "Arnold Palmer" is a drink that's made up of
half lemonade & half iced tea.

That said, you can imagine how delighted
I was when my friend Mary
(great name, huh?!)
turned me onto a whole
New Arnold Palmer
(grown up style)

That's made up of...

Half Lemonade
Half Sweet Tea Flavor Vodka

YOWZA!!!

I think I will be serving these at my next afternoon gathering... and I have the perfect dispensers to serve from!
Check out my Iced Tea & Lemonade decanters
from Two's Company... they will be perfect!

BEWARE!
These "new" Arnold Palmers taste
too good & they will "sneak" up on you...
so drink it slowly & with caution!

YUM!
